Review Monitor Privacy Policy
For the iWrity Review Monitor Chrome extension. Last updated 13 October 2026.
What the extension does
iWrity Review Monitor watches the Amazon books you add to it. About once a day, while Chrome is open, it loads the public review pages of those books in the background and compares them with the last check. When a review appears, disappears or comes back, it tells you with a badge, a desktop notification and, if you turn it on, an email.
What stays in your browser
The list of books you watch (Amazon store and ASIN), the review IDs, titles, star ratings and reviewer names it saw on the last check, and the list of recent changes. All of this lives in Chrome's local extension storage on your computer. iWrity does not receive it and has no copy of it.
Remove a book or uninstall the extension and that data is gone.
What goes to Amazon
The extension fetches the review pages of your watched books from the Amazon store you picked, the same way your browser does when you open those pages yourself. Amazon sees a normal page visit from your browser. The extension does not read your Amazon orders, account details, payment data or any page other than the review pages of the books you added.
What goes to iWrity (only with email alerts on)
Email alerts are part of the paid iWrity plans. The extension, its badge and its desktop notifications are free. Email alerts are off until you click "Get email alerts" and sign in to an iWrity account with a plan. iWrity then gives the extension a random link token tied to your account, and checks your plan status each time it sends an alert. When a review changes, the extension sends iWrity the change itself (book title, store, ASIN, change type and the review's title, star rating and reviewer name) together with that token. iWrity uses it only to send that email to the address on your iWrity account.
iWrity stores the link token, your account ID and email address, when it was created, and a daily count of alert emails (maximum 10 per day). It does not store the review changes after the email is sent. Click "Stop email alerts" in the extension and the token is switched off for good.
Install count
When you install or update the extension, it sends iWrity one random install ID (made on your computer, not linked to you or your account) and the extension version. iWrity uses this only to count how many people use the extension. It contains no Amazon data, no books and no email address.
What the extension never does
It does not track your browsing, show ads, sell or share data, or use analytics beyond the install count above. It does not run on any website other than the Amazon review pages of your books and the iWrity page where you connect email alerts. Data is never used for creditworthiness, lending or anything unrelated to review alerts.
Permissions, and why
Storage: to remember your books and the last check. Alarms: to run the daily check. Notifications: to show a desktop alert. Offscreen and scripting: to read the review pages in the background. If Amazon refuses the direct route, the extension opens the review page in a background tab, reads it and closes it again. Amazon sites: to load the review pages. iwrity.com: to connect email alerts to your account and to send the install count.
