What Wix does
Wix gives you hosting, a drag-and-drop editor and 2,000+ templates in one subscription. You can start from a template or from an AI prompt, then move any element by hand.
For an author, the free plan works to test a design, but it shows Wix branding and has no custom domain. Light covers a basic author site. You need Core or higher to sell signed copies or merch from the site.

Pros and cons
What works

- ✓Blog and store built in
What does not
- ✗Light plan cannot accept payments
- ✗Hard to move your site off Wix later
- ✗Domain is free for the first year only
Our verdict
Wix is the easiest way to get a polished author site live in an afternoon. Start on the free plan, and upgrade to Light when you connect your own domain.
Frequently asked questions
Is Wix free for authors?
You can build and publish a site for free, but it shows Wix branding and uses a Wix web address. A custom domain needs a paid plan, from $17/mo on 11 Oct 2026 (billed yearly).
Can I sell my books on a Wix site?
Yes, from the Core plan up, which accepts payments and includes eCommerce. Most authors link to Amazon instead and sell only signed copies or bundles direct.
Does Wix include a domain name?
Paid plans include a voucher for a free domain for one year. You pay the normal domain price after that.
